The white dianthus is one of various patterns and colours that I got in a mixed pack, from white, white & magenta, mottled pink, to hot hot dark pinky-red. Perhaps I should make an entry just for the pinks.

Flowers and beans, May 22nd
The scrambling rose bush turns out to have lovely soft-pink flowers with a delicate spicy tea-rose scent. The mange-tout Golden Sweet peas are flowering, and oddly, have two colours - pink, and blue. The Masterpiece Longpod broad beans are making pods, can't wait for some of those to mature.

I just noticed this post, what lovely mangtoute flowers mine are normally basic white, whats the name of the variety?

I had no idea what the flowers would look like - a nice surprise. As is almost everything, so far. :)
Thanks I'll put that on my wish list for next year as I prefer to grow mangtoute anyway.

ReplyDeleteBy the way, I was harvesting these Golden Sweet too soon, to start with. I was picking them when they were still flat, like supermarket mange tout. I've discovered they're much better if you let the peas fatten a bit - you do have to de-string the sides of the pod by then, but it's very easy - and you get a more succulent, crunchier result. :)
